This post has a lot of info, but it will make you think more carefully about your decision, and maybe save you lots of money & aggravation. Take the time
to read it.

This approach may not be right for you - but at least you will have properly considered it!

Your initial response is probably:

"But I don't know what to do! Where will I start? It's all too hard!"

Your initial response may well be w-r-o-n-g. Read on, and then decide.

Another well written post for franchising vs. new business.

In deciding between buying a franchise and starting a new business, perhaps the best place to begin is to ask yourself why you want to own a business. Your answer may provide some insight into which path you should choose.

1.) If you want to own your own business because of the freedom it will bring you, then don't buy a franchise. If you do, the franchisor decision will be done and you have limited control over it.

2.) If you believe that your business idea is promising and nurture it, then don't buy a franchise. You will never be given an opportunity to puruse your ideas. Having your own business allows will give you full control over it.

STAGE 1 - THE BUSINESS
Answer these critical questions:
(Note: Ensure that you talk to someone who has industry knowledge who can answer these.)
1. Is the franchise in an industry or of a type that is heavily dependent on the franchise brand for custom?
2. Is the franchise a business that requires "peculiar" skills & know-how that cannot readily be purchased?
3. Does the franchise sell a service or product, or use a methodology of such...
